Sevilla manager Eduardo Berizzo who inspired the Spanish club to a 3-3 draw against Liverpool in the Champions League on 21 November has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, according to the Independent.

The club are expected to make an official announcement on their manager's health on Wednesday. The La Liga outfit were 3-0 down at half-time against the Merseyside club at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. However, a brace from Wissam Ben Yedder in the second half followed by an equaliser from Guido Pizarro in the stoppage time made sure Sevilla salvaged a point against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Sevilla president Jose Castro stressed that he expects to wait until Wednesday before revealing any further details about the health of the Argentine coach. He said, "As it is a personal and complicated issue, I prefer to wait to tomorrow [Wednesday]."

According to Sevillainfo, Berizzo revealed to his players at half-time against Liverpool that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 48-year-old masterminded his side's comeback, which has kept their chances of finishing the group on top of the table.

Sevilla are second in the group with eight points after five games, one point behind group leaders Liverpool. They are on the road to face Maribor, while Jurgen Klopp's side host Spartak Moscow in the final group stage Champions League fixture.

After Pizarro scored the equaliser, the Argentine midfielder was joined by his teammates in celebrating with their manager.

Following his side's Champions League comeback against Liverpool, the Sevilla manager said: "When you are faithful to attacking play, football ends up paying you back. Football shows you should always keep believing and that is what happened today."

Berizzo will undergo treatment at an unknown date and is expected to spend time on the sidelines. He helped Celta Vigo reach the last four of the Europa League and the Copa del Rey last season. Berizzo was appointed as Sevilla manager before the start of the 2017/18 season.
