Sevilla players were told their manager has been diagnosed with prostate cancer at half time of their 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

Eduardo Berizzo revealed the news to his players at the break while his players were 3-0 down and it sparked an incredible comeback to secure a draw in stoppage time of their Champions League clash.

Guido Pizarro's goal sparked wild celebrations from the players who made a point of running over to Berizzo and embracing him.

And after the game, reports emerged that the comeback was inspired by distressing news given to the Sevilla players during the half-time team talk.

Berizzo, 48, told them he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, according to Sevillainfo.

The reports were confirmed by other journalists including Spanish football expert Guillem Balague who tweeted: "Eduardo Berizzo, Sevilla manager, has got prostate cancer. His real big game starts now.

"Sevilla will confirm soon in a public note"

The club did not publicly comment on the reports but confirmed a press conference will be held on Wednesday.

According to Sevillainfo, the tumour has been caught early and Berizzo, who was appointed manager in May, is expected to make a full recovery.

Berizzo, a former defender from Cruz Alta, Argentina, moved to Spain in 2001 where he played for Celta Vigo for four years.

He returned as manager in 2014, guiding them to the last four in the Copa del Rey and Europa League.
