A brave Diamonds fan suffering from prostate and bone cancer has raised a significant sum for the Airdrieonians Supporters’ Trust and Maggie’s Lanarkshire.

Lifelong Airdrie supporter Tom Eaton took on a sponsored headshave after he commenced chemotherapy treatment and raised a fantastic £1400 thanks to donations from friends, family and fellow fans.

The 55-year-old decided to donate to Maggie’s Lanarkshire, which received £1000, with the remaining £400 going to the Supporters’ Trust for community projects.

Tom was invited along to the monthly prostate cancer group meeting at Maggie’s, where he presented his cheque to members and was joined by some of the Trust’s committee.

Tom told the Advertiser: “My hair had started to fall out and I thought that I should do something positive, so just decided to shave it all off.

“I wanted to fundraise for Maggie’s because they have been absolutely brilliant with me. They have a really relaxed atmosphere and I’ve learned so much from them.

“If you ask a question they always have an answer, or will find someone who does.”

Tom added: “The Trust have also been amazing and I’m close with the committee guys, so it was good to help other fans like me.”

A spokesperson for the Airdrieonians Supporters’ Trust added: “On behalf of everyone at the Trust, we would like to offer our thanks to Tom for the kind donation.

“Having completed his chemotherapy sessions we wish Tom all the best in his future, as he awaits the next course of action.”

Maggie’s is open to anyone who is affected by cancer, and provides practical, emotional and social support.

The centres are all self-funded and are constantly seeking new funding so the donation was warmly received.
