Indiana woman trapped in crashed car survives 6 days by sucking creek water from sweatshirt

A woman who was trapped in a crashed car survived for six days by dipping a sweatshirt into a small creek and sucking the water out of it, the Associated Press reports.

Brieonna Cassell, 41, of Wheatfield, Ind., was found Tuesday by a man operating drainage equipment, the report said. She was conscious and able to speak. Family members had reported her missing days before.

Cassell had fallen asleep at the wheel and crashed into a ditch on Thursday, March 6, near Brook, Ind., AP reports. Her legs were broken, and she was trapped in the vehicle, which was out of sight of passing traffic. Her phone was under the passenger seat, out of reach.

First responders extricated Cassell from the vehicle and she was flown to a hospital in Chicago, the report said. As of Wednesday, she was in stable condition and scheduled for surgery on her legs as there was concern about them healing properly.
