Founded in 1907, the SIU has established itself as the premier international professional society for urologists. As global interdependence increases, so does the relevance of the Society’s mission to enable urologists in all nations to apply the highest standards of urological care to their patients through international cooperation in education and research. The SIU’s emphasis on global diversity comes from the top, with a Board of Directors composed of 26 members from 19 countries.
The SIU upholds its mission by building community and providing equitable access to training and education for its more than 15,300 members. The Society facilitates urological research and education through collaboration amongst nations.
Through the hard work of its Board and Committee members, the Society has developed unique and effective tools to support its members and foster growth and collaboration through its online eLearning platform (SIU Academy), research platform (uCARE), and journal (Societe Internationale d’Urologie Journal). These important resources enhance the education and skills of urologists from all geopolitical and training backgrounds.
The cornerstone of the SIU’s global mandate is its annual Congress. The Society uses a geographical rotation to select host nations to ensure that the event remains accessible to its members in all regions. Further to this, the SIU has offered online access to the event through its trusted platform SIU@U for more than 10 years. This focus on accessibility and inclusion allows urologists all around the world to access the latest advancements in research, technology, and training, guided by esteemed experts from diverse sub-specialities.
This year, the SIU plans to welcome more than 2500 urologists, researchers, trainees, and related healthcare professionals from around the world to Edinburgh, 29 October – 1 November, as well as a larger virtual audience hosted on SIU@U.
The 2025 Congress Scientific Programme Committee has developed a cutting-edge and comprehensive programme that combines insights on the hottest topics and upcoming advancements, training programmes applicable to daily practice, and valuable professional development topics. Dr Rajeev T P (India) and Dr Seth Lerner (United States) have led programme planning with a view to providing attendees with the most high-yield sessions in a variety of dynamic formats – from interactive instructional courses, practical hands-on training workshops, and exciting video-led and live surgery sessions, to information-rich master class presentations and state-of-the-art lectures.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend Surgery Day on Thursday 30 October. This is an exciting and popular day of live and semi-live surgeries highlighting cases in various urological sub-specialities, including endourology, andrology, focal therapy, imaging, uro-oncology, paediatric surgery, and reconstructive surgery.
SIU 2025 participants can access additional programming at no extra cost, including the 7th Bench to Bedside: GU Cancers Triad Meeting taking place on Friday 31 October. The B2B Meeting has quickly become a go-to for those specialising in bladder, kidney, and prostate cancers and will present evolving trends in the early detection of disease, recent results of clinical trials, new therapies, biomarkers, and novel technologies and treatment strategies, including new surgical techniques. Chaired by Drs Peter Black (Canada), Dr Caroline Moore (United Kingdom), and Dr Simon Tanguay (Canada), the B2B allows attendees the unique opportunity for feedback and conversation with high-profile international faculty.
Aside from networking with colleagues and key opinion leaders, delegates can also interact with top pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies in the exhibit hall.
Regularly scheduled health breaks provide time outside the sessions to browse the hall and learn more about new and upcoming innovations from industry partners.
Residents, trainees, and students interested in attending SIU 2025 will find several unique sessions designed specifically for their career stage and interests, from resident mentoring, an innovator symposium organised by early-career urologists, to a Residents’ Forum abstract session. To ensure that this valuable educational experience remains accessible, the SIU offers a special reduced rate for trainees, residents, and medical students.
Unable to attend in-person? SIU@U will host more than 50 hours of curated content for those logging in from afar, or for attendees who wish to revisit key sessions. Remarkably, SIU@U does more than just stream content, visitors can also connect with fellow attendees and receive updates through the virtual exhibit hall.
