The King was photographed waving at crowds along The Mall from the window of his car as he left Clarence House, in London, on Friday.

Engagements in Birmingham, originally scheduled for the Friday, were postponed as were planned audiences with ambassadors at Buckingham Palace on Thursday afternoon.

It is also the same hospital where Catherine, the Princess of Wales, had abdominal surgery in January of the same year. Kate was later diagnosed with cancer and underwent a course of preventative chemotherapy which ended in September. The 43-year-old is now in remission and has resumed a near-full program of royal events this year.

The monarch was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024 and has been having regular treatment since.

Buckingham Palace has not revealed the nature of the King's treatment.

In April last year the monarch returned to public-facing duties after an extended period away on the advice of his medical team.

Last week was a busy one for King Charles with engagements in London, which followed a three-day visit to Northern Ireland with Queen Camilla.
