The just released annual report of the DailyMale Men’s Health Clinic identified more than 75% as uninsured or underinsured, with 95% of these clients being Black.

The report further claimed to have found 17% of those that attended 12 pop-up clinics over the course of 2023 and 2024 to have shown abnormal Prostate-Specific Antigen levels — PSA refers to a protein produced by prostate cells, and its levels are measured to assess prostate health, particularly in relation to prostate cancer and other conditions.

Additionally, it was discovered that out of 220 visitors examined by DailyMale clinicians, 128 had hypertension or elevated blood pressure levels.

According to the report, the results demonstrate real health disparities in Bermuda, exposing inequities among different social, economic and racial groups.

“Black Bermudians, who make up a large portion of the population, experience worse health outcomes than White Bermudians, facing higher rates of chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease,” stated the report.

“Though Bermuda’s healthcare system is generally good, lower-income Black families often struggle with access to quality care due to challenges like limited transportation, lack of insurance, and geographic barriers.

“Those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds also experience poorer health outcomes because of limited healthcare access, lower health literacy, and higher rates of smoking, alcohol use, and other risk behaviours.”

In total DailyMale encountered 290 visitors ranging in age from 32 to 91.

The clinic employed more than 90 volunteers led by co-founders Dr Jonathan and newly minted physician Dr. K. Jade Robinson.

The group’s efforts in providing education, screening, medical advice and social support efforts of the group were lauded by Bermuda Hospitals Board chief executive Scott Pearman.

“The DailyMale was established to make a difference in men’s health and they have exceeded all expectations,” stated Pearman. “In just two years the DailyMale has helped remove barriers to care for men in Bermuda and encourage open dialogue about health concerns that are often overlooked. “Hundreds of men across Bermuda have benefited from the free health screening clinics the DailyMale has offered. Some have discovered they had health issues that needed addressing, and all have learnt more about the importance of proactive healthcare.

“With easily accessible, free screening available in the community, I am hopeful that we improve outcomes for men in Bermuda who do face a challenging diagnosis. I would like to congratulate and thank the DailyMale on its two-year anniversary and pay tribute to the many doctors and nurses at BHB who have volunteered their time to support the charity’s activities.

“I’m greatly encouraged by what has been achieved so far and look forward to what comes next. We at BHB will continue to support this work and remain committed to expanding services, ensuring men in Bermuda continue to have access to world-class care.”
