POLL: Irish people reveal just how much is the right amount to put in a wedding card

Shockingly, the average wedding in Ireland now costs roughly €35,000 and this rising expense seems to be having a knock-on effect for guests as well as the bride and groom.

According to our recent poll, people are somewhat divided when it comes to an exact figure for the wedding card - although it is on the higher end of the scale.

There has always been debate around how much is the right amount for guests to give newlyweds in the wedding card and it's a topic which often pops up on social media as people panic about what to give.

Despite the cost of living crisis, the price of weddings continue to increase in Ireland and the events themselves have become even more extravagant with day twos and threes and not to mention the foreign stag and hen dos.

Yet despite all of this, people have voted mostly for the higher options in this poll. For couples, the most popular amount to put in a card is €200 with 26% of the vote, followed closely by €250 with 20%. The next popular answer for couples attending weddings was €350 which received 12% of the vote.

This is where the results gets a little more scattered. After this, the next popular answer was €150 for couples which got 6%. Then at the bottom of the table for couples was €100, €350 and €450+ all of which received 2% respectively and reflecting the more extreme ends of the scale.

For single wedding guests, the most popular answer was €100 with 17%, followed by €150 with 10% of the vote. Only 3% of people said that single people should give €200 plus.

It is often a topic which people have strong opinions on and so it is interesting to see such a divide in the results.
