Tripoli— The head of the Government of National Unity (GNU) PM Abdulhamid Dbeibeh met Monday with a number of European ambassadors to Libya and expressed his appreciation for their countries’ support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its ongoing investigations in Libya.

He stressed that “cooperation with international justice is part of the GNU’s commitment to combating impunity and ensuring accountability for serious crimes committed against citizens,” according to a statement by “Our Government”, the GNU’s Facebook platform.

Those ambassadors who attended the meeting include the European Union Ambassador, the Italian Ambassador, the British Ambassador, the Greek Ambassador, and the French Deputy Ambassador.

Mr. Dbeibeh also emphasized that “the state’s vision is clear and explicit, and is based on ending all armed groups outside the army and police institutions, as this is a prerequisite for building a stable civil state governed solely by legitimate institutions,” the statement added.

The meeting with the European ambassador addressed the serious violations committed by some of the armed groups, including murder, kidnapping, torture, and extortion, emphasizing the need to hold those responsible accountable.

According to the GNU, “the dangerous role played by some of these groups in supporting organized crime networks, particularly human trafficking and illegal immigration, was also addressed,” calling for a more resolute international stance in supporting the GNU’s efforts to combat them.

The two sides also discussed joint cooperation between Libya and the European Union, emphasizing the importance of resuming programs supporting stability, institutional development, and combating irregular migration, it said.
