The Brussels elite is forcing the people of Europe to live through a nightmare in which they feel like strangers in their own countries and do not feel safe on their own streets. But if sovereigntists come together and work towards a united goal, the ‘European dream’ can be realised.
This was the opening message of Viktor Orbán at this week’s CPAC Hungary conference, where ideals have been laid out and new allegiances—including with the Alternative für Deutschland’s Alice Weidel—have been formed.
Our European dream was that if we European peoples united, there would be no more wars, and we could live in prosperity and security. Let’s work together! Let the sovereign states join together to create the safest and most advanced continent in the world. That would be the European Union, European integration.

The prime minister’s political director, Balázs Orbán, made clear in his own address that the stakes could not be higher. Speaking about Hungary in particular, Balázs stressed that European Union leaders are supporting liberal forces that will fight to keep Brussels’ vision alive.
It’s dangerous. We could lose our country. That’s why we need a united front—people who love Hungary, who believe in our national values.
Migration has, of course, been a key theme of the conference, with Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) leader Herbert Kickl noting that establishment politicians are not stopping mass border crossings: “No, it is being organised, promoted and glorified.” But the fight is gaining strength as more Europeans wake up to the crisis engulfing the Continent.:
People are waking up, more and more and more often, and they find themselves with their worries, needs, wishes and hopes in what we criticize, what we plan and what we push forward. A great wave of freedom is currently building up across Europe.

The need to protect political freedoms and the freedom of speech has also been championed by many of the conference’s speakers, as well as opposition to centralised economic governance.
Journalists from europeanconservative.com have spent the week at CPAC and will be reporting from the conference in the coming days.
