Jill Biden married Joe at the United Nations Chapel in New York City in 1977, becoming the stepmother to his two sons, Beau and Hunter. The pair had a daughter together Ashley, who was born in 1981.
When she met Biden on a blind date, she noted how different he looked from her usual type.
Speaking at a fundraiser for her husband at New York's Lotos Club in 2023, she said, "It was the '70s... It was Vietnam, love beads, and equal rights. I wore my hair down to the middle of my waist, and so did most of the men I dated."
When Biden turned up in a suit and loafers, she was initially slightly put off, and remembered thinking “Thank god it’s only one date!”.
But the date became the start of a new relationship, and Biden allegedly ended up proposing to Jill a whopping five times.
The couple are now coming to terms with Biden’s recent cancer diagnosis, which is said to be an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has already spread to the bone.
82-year-old Biden was diagnosed with the cancer on May 16 after "experiencing urinary symptoms," and finding a "nodule" on his prostate, according to a statement from his office. The former president is said to have one of the worst forms of the disease, but according to USA Today, it does appear to be “hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management”.
Biden’s firstborn son, Joseph "Beau" R. Biden III, from his previous marriage, passed away from brain cancer in May 2015.
