(WJAR) — Lawmakers in the Rhode Island State House will take up the "Take it outside" bill.
If passed, this would allow for restaurants to provide outdoor dining if their building has undergone severe damage.
This Bill comes after the popular Matunuck Oyster Bar had to shut down after a devastating fire. And Monday night South Kingstown Town Council voted unanimously to bring the establishment back to serving customers outdoors.
The proposed law builds on the state's "Take it outside" program and would allow restaurants to stay in business after their building had to close due to a fire, flooding, or another major disaster.
If passed this would allow affected businesses to be open outdoors for up to 18 months statewide.
This would also bring back 50 jobs for the Matunuck Oyster Bar.
