Rhode Island Department of Health and Department of Environmental Management announced Thursday they have lifted the advisory that recommended avoiding contact with Worden Pond.

The state agencies had recommended to avoid contact due to harmful algae bloom earlier this month.

According to officials, the algae bloom has cleared from the pond in South Kingstown.

Officials said recent testing shows low algae levels and no toxins were detected.

Health officials say exposure to algae bloom could cause irritation of the skin, nose, eyes, and throat.

Symptoms can include stomachache, diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea, while less common symptoms can include dizziness, headache, fever, liver damage, and nervous system damage.
