During the visit of the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia, B. Mamedov, to Turkmenistan, a meeting was held with the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, Ch. Babaniyazov.
The parties discussed a wide range of environmental protection issues. Special attention was given to biodiversity, the rational use of water resources, waste management, as well as the preparation of a roadmap and the development of a national strategy for waste management in Turkmenistan.
Emphasizing the need to strengthen focus on the rational use of water resources in the region, the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan proposed developing a pilot project for the creation of deciduous tree nurseries in addition to coniferous ones.
B. Mamedov, in turn, familiarized the ministry representatives with the priorities and new projects of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia. In particular, he informed about the "One Health" project, implemented with the support of the World Bank, and the RESILAND CA+ project, in which Turkmenistan participates.
During the meeting, information was also provided about the UNDP environmental project, which could support the improvement of the regulatory framework of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, specifically the development of a forest cadastre and an environmental atlas, as well as other legal documents in the field of environmental protection. In this context, it was proposed to appoint a national coordination officer from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan to participate in the program.
The working meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere and became an important step in strengthening the partnership relations between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and CAREC.
