FRANKFORT, Ky. (KFVS) - The state of Kentucky will spend $6.5 million on 13 critical bridge projects in the state.

The County and City Bridge Improvement Program funding will repair, replace or preserve the bridges to improve their lifespan and keep open critical transportation links.

Three of the 13 projects are in Western Kentucky:

  • $490,000 to replace a bridge on Charlie Miller Road in Calloway County
  • $420,000 to replace a bridge on Shaw Road in Graves County
  • $530,000 to place a bridge on Ferguson Road in Lyon County

“Bridges link more than roads; they link Kentuckians to the places that matter most like school, work or health care,” said Gov. Beshear. “This program keeps local bridges in a good state of repair so they can remain in service as safe and efficient connections for the families, first responders and businesses that rely on them.”

The project in Lyon County will also include an effort to reshape the channel under the bridge to improve water flow and protect the bridge from erosion.

Each project was selected after a review and validation by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to ensure the most effective solutions.

Local governments that would like to submit a project for future funding are encouraged to contact Kentucky’s Department of Rural and Municipal Aid or the local Department of Highways.
