BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho chapter of the Sierra Club is organizing an "emergency picket" tonight to advocate for the preservation of public lands. This action follows Senator Mike Lee of Utah's indication that he will revise his original proposal to sell large areas of public lands, which was rejected by Senate parliamentarians on Monday.

Dozens of supporters and volunteers to gather outside Senator Mike Crapo's office. Both Senator Crapo and Idaho Senator Jim Risch have issued statements opposing the initial draft of the sale.

Senator Lee has announced plans to amend the proposed sale, which is part of a federal budget reconciliation bill, to significantly reduce the Bureau of Land Management lands involved. The revised proposal would limit sales to land within five miles of a population center.

The Sierra Club warns that if the proposed sale proceeds, access to up to 46 miles of trails in the Ridge to Rivers system could be lost. This includes trails such as Sweet Connie Trail, Hulls Gulch, Dry Creek Trail, Polecat Trail, and Bob's Trail, amounting to about 20 percent of the area's trails.

The future of the proposal remains uncertain, as it is unclear if the revision will pass parliamentary scrutiny.
