A Waterville man will serve 10 years in prison and four years' probation for last year's killing of 22-year-old Justin Iraola.
Tyler Quirion was sentenced Friday after accepting a plea deal in April after charges for manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm were dismissed.
Quirion was first arrested on Sept. 20, 2024, seven months after Iraola died of multiple gunshot wounds at a party in Waterville.
In court on Friday, Iraola's family spoke about his 3-year-old daughter who will now be raised without her father. Iraola's mother told the court that there are no words to describe the family's pain.
Quirion's family spoke as well ahead of the sentencing and said their son and brother "deserves a chance."
Quirion himself addressed the judge directly and apologized for his actions.
"Your honor, I cannot express how sorry I am for Justin and his family, and his child," Quirion said. "I never wanted this to happen. I wish I could take it all back."
The judge sentenced Quirion to 25 years in prison, but 15 years of that sentence have been suspended.
