SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — A New Mexico woman died after being found unconscious and floating in Lake Michigan, according to the South Haven Police Department in an update.
Monday, the 67-year-old was alone at her family's lakeshore property when she went for a swim, but never got out of the water, police said.
A boater later found the woman floating and unconscious in the water about five miles south of the lighthouse, but was unable to get her out.
However, the boater was able to put a floatation device on her until South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) responders were able to swim out to their location, about 500 yards away from 20th Avenue, according to police.
The woman received CPR and other medical treatment before she was taken to Bronson South Haven Hospital, but she later died.
As of Friday, there is no indication that foul play was a factor in the woman's death, and the department is still waiting on autopsy results, according to police.
Her name will also not be released out of respect for her family, police said.
