Russia: in the current season, the exports of flour refocused on the markets of East Asia – APK-Inform

2017/18 MY demonstrated significant changes in the geography of Russian flour exports – shipments to the Middle East significantly decreased, while the supplies to East Asian countries showed an upward trend.

So, in the first half of the current season the share of East Asian countries in the export structure of wheat flour from Russia increased to 70%, against 45% in the same period of 2016/17 MY. In July-December, Russia shipped over 80 thsd tonnes of flour in the reporting direction, up 15% compared with the volumes for the whole 2016/17 MY (69.4 thsd tonnes).

China became the largest country-importer of Russian flour among countries of East Asia, and purchased 77 thsd tonnes of the product during 6 months of the season, up 20% compared with the whole 2016/17 MY.

At the same time, in the first half of the season countries of the Middle East purchased 18.1 thsd tonnes of Russian flour only , down 2.5 times compared with July-December of 2016/17 MY.

Generally, in the first half of 2017/18 MY the exports of wheat flour from Russia (excluding the supplies within the Customs Union) totaled 105.7 thsd tonnes, up 9% compared with the same period last season.
